Detailed DescriptionIn a world-first for Irish whiskey, Midleton has released a Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey finished in casks made of virgin Quercus Petraea oak grown and felled in the volcanic soils of the Carpathian Mountain range in north-eastern Hungary. It was initially matured in a combination of first-fill and refill American oak barrels before it was finished in the virgin Hungarian oak for 11 months. The cask, which was harvested in winter and air-dried for two years at the Kádár sawmills in Tokaj, was chosen for its tight grain structure. This is said to impart complex compounds and subtle flavours slowly into the whiskey. It was bottled without chill-filtration at 46% ABV.Method & Madness Single Pot Still Limited Edition / Virgin Hungarian Oak Finish Irish Whiskey Tasting NotesNose: Buttery fudge, honey-roasted peanuts and a little oak spice lead, before hints of toasted coconut, bonfire embers and golden barley emerge.Palate: Luscious and a little drying, the palate has plenty of white grapes, orange peel and thick treacle. Gingersnaps and bittersweet liquorice add depth among toasted oak.Finish: Woodland spice lingers with a touch of milk chocolate.Distillery InformationThe Midleton distilleries complex is situated in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland.
