Detailed DescriptionWest Cork Distillers has announced the re-release of their Black Reserve Irish Whiskey in 2018. After completely selling out of the 4,800 bottles imported into the U.S. last year, consumer demand prompted the company to release another 4,800 bottles into this market next year. West Cork Black Reserve is made by blending malted (36%) and un-malted grain whiskey, aged in Bourbon Casks, for 4-to-5 years before being finished in lightly toasted, heavily charred #4 first-fill bourbon casks for an additional six months. This process produces a slightly smoky, vanilla-rich sweet whiskey, the company says. It’s bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof).West Cork Limited Release Black Reserve Irish Whiskey Tasting NotesNose: Buttery aromas.Palate: Flavors of honeyed grain, honeycomb, chocolate creme brulee, and hint of pencil eraser with a silky, tangy, fruity medium-to-full body and a tingling, delightful, medium-length dried apricot, granola in cream.Finish: Spiced praline finish.Distillery InformationFounded in 2003 by three close friends Denis McCarthy, Ger McCarthy & John O’Connell in Union Hall, West Cork, Ireland; West Cork Distillers was inspired by the proud history of artisan food & beverage production in Cork. The trio had some experience of this in their previous occupations, as Ger & Denis were deep sea trawlermen and John was a research & development scientist for some large blue chip food & beverage companies.
