Detailed Description
One of Glendronach’s most sought after range, and becoming very rare, this 40 year old whisky was distilled in February 1971 and matured in a Pedro Ximinez Sherry Puncheon before being bottled from the single cask (# 1436) in July 2011.
Glendronach 1971 40 Year | Tasting Notes
Nose: Spicy and full of life. A basket of freshly picked brambles and raspberries. Huge coffee and roasted walnut structure.
Palate: Powerful and full flavoured. Nuts, chocolate and dried Mediterranean fruits including figs, dates and sweet raisins.
Finish: The finish is very balanced, extremely rich and complex. Amazing warm and rich whisky.
Distillery Information
Deep in the East Highland Hills of Aberdeenshire, nestled in the Valley of Forgue, lies The GlenDronach Distillery. The distillery was founded in 1826 on the site of the Boynsmill Estate and the historic Boynsmill House – dating back to 1771 and later renamed Glen House – is still standing proud today. Named after the bramble thorns we are surrounded by, ‘GlenDronach’ means ‘Valley of the Brambles’ in Scots Gaelic. For nearly two hundred years our distillery has been guarded by a parliament of rooks, who try to nest in our warehouses. Distillery folk believes that as long as these gregarious birds remain, the whisky will prosper.
