2018 | Chateau Carbonnieux | Pessac-Leognan Blanc $198.99

White Wine: 2018 | Chateau Carbonnieux | Pessac-Leognan Blanc

The wine is pale yellow with a slightly green tint. Coming from a vintage that could be called solar after the beginning of ripening, this wine has a fresh aromatic nose of grapefruit and apricot. In mouth, the wine is long and with ageing the unctuous Semillon will continue to fill the mid-palate. This wine is very well-balanced.

Reviews:

Wine Advocate: The Carbonnieux 2018 Blanc features intense lime juice, yuzu and green mango scents with touches of lemon curd and white pepper. Medium-bodied, very tightly wound and zesty in the mouth, it has a racy backbone and a mineral-laced finish.

James Suckling: Whole lemon, green mango and bell pepper on the nose with a hint of chalk. It’s medium-bodied with bright acidity and a creamy, honeyed texture.

Producer Information
Château Carbonnieux is a wine estate based in the Pessac-Léognan region of Bordeaux where, in keeping with its regional reputation (in the Graves region south of Bordeaux town), it produces red and white wines across a variety of tiers – and often to equal acclaim. The estate was founded in the 13th Century and, throughout the following six centuries, its ownership has passed between many of France’s bourgeois families. The modern history of the château began in the mid-1900s, when it was purchased by the Perrin family. The château and surrounding estate then went through a renovation which saw a new fermentation cellar and winery built, and an increase of vineyards from 45 to 92 hectares (111 to 227 acres). Both the red and white wines of Château Carbonnieux were classified as Grand Cru Classé de Graves in 1959. The typical Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are planted in the vineyards. The vines are, on average, 30 years old and are planted on soils rich in gravel, clay, sand and limestone that are naturally well draining.
