Whiskey: Hudson Whiskey NY “Back Room Deal” Peated Scotch Barrel Finished Straight Rye
Hudson sent their ex-bourbon barrels across the Atlantic where they were used to age peated whiskey, then emptied, and returned to the Hudson distillery where fill them up again with straight rye whiskey. There’s nothing sinister about it, it’s just how the world works. A bit of smoke, a bit of spice. Good enough to seal the deal.

Hudson Whiskey NY “Back Room Deal” Peated Scotch Barrel Finished Straight Rye Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: There’s a bit of smoke in the air, and a soft aroma of vanilla, apricot, and brown sugar.
Palate: Take a sip, and it’s bright and fruity with black pepper and mint, rye spice mingling perfectly with smokey peat notes.
Finish: The peat lasts long on the finish, with just a little bit of sweetness.
Distillery Information
Tuthilltown Distillery is New York’s first legal distillery since the Prohibition era. It was established in 2003 by Ralph Erenzo and his partner Brian Lee in the old Tuthilltown Gristmill. They converted one of the mill granaries to a micro-distillery, and brought the tradition of small batch spirits production back to the Hudson Valley.
Through sustainable growth, the company reached the stage when the partners were approached by William Grant and Sons to sell the distillery. Instead, they negotiated the sale of the Hudson whiskey brand, while keeping the control over the product through the distillery, becoming the first craft brand to be picked up by a major house.
