Detailed DescriptionReleased in August 2018, this release from Jefferson’s Reserve is made in collaboration with the Independent Stave Company, a family-owned cooperage based in Missouri. The barrels produced were made from grooved staves intended to increase the surface area inside the barrel. The barrels were toasted for a period of time before flash charring. Jefferson’s took 10 year-old Kentucky straight bourbon and finished it in these custom barrels for four months. Bottled at 45.1% ABV.Jefferson’s Reserve Twin Oak Custom Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Tasting NotesNose: The aroma is thick with wood — as you might expect — and notes of vanilla and butterscotch over cinnamon apple tart.Palate: On the tongue you’ll find classic baking spices up front followed by notes of roasted almonds, sweet bell pepper, fresh wood, and a hint of apple.Finish: The finish is medium length with a lingering spice.Distillery InformationFounded in 1997, Jefferson’s is the brainchild of Trey Zoeller and his father Chet, a famed bourbon historian. They were continuing a family tradition that goes back to Trey’s 8th generation grandmother who was arrested in 1799 for the “production and sales of spirituous liquors.” To personify the brand, they chose Thomas Jefferson—known for his curiosity and experimental spirit. This is a mindset to which Trey has dedicated himself, pushing the boundaries of the definition of bourbon. Upholding tradition, yet always discovering new possibilities.
